Frankie Cosmos is far from a household name at this stage in her career. Following the failed coup attempt in Turkey last weekend, Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s government has stripped 59, 628 private school teachers of their accreditation, and the state-run Council of Higher Education called on all 1,577 the deans of private and public universities to immediately resign. Yesterday, the government took the assault on academic freedom a step further, firing an additional 100 academics and issuing a travel ban on all professors still employed.

Now that we’ve had some time to reflect on the Iran deal in retrospect—by which I mean read the secret documents deliberately kept from the public which contradict many of the core promises used to sell the deal to the American people—it’s time to take stock of all the post-deal “surprises” that are anything but—at least to anyone who has been paying attention to the Obama Administration’s actions and aims. Tonight was supposed to be a show of strength for the Trump campaign and a show of unity for the Republican party. The convention program called for a parade of Trump’s vanquished primary rivals to endorse him, in escalating order of the delegates they’d won: first Wisconsin governor Scott Walker, then Florida senator Marco Rubio, and finally the runner-up, Texas Senator Ted Cruz.
