‘Maze Runner’ Heads to No. 1 as Fox Dominates Box Office
The first weekend after Oscar nominations belongs to 20th Century Fox, as three of its nominated titles have made the top 10 this weekend while the studio’s new release, “Maze Runner: The Death Cure,” has taken over the No. 1 spot from “Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle.”
Starring Dylan O’Brien and directed by Wes Ball, the final installment in the “Maze Runner” trilogy made $8.4 million on Friday — including $1.5 million in Thursday previews — and is estimated to open to $23 million from 3,787 screens. The film has received mixed reviews from critics and audiences, earning a 43 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes but doing better with opening night crowds with a B+ on CinemaScore.
