I’m an interior design pro – 6 mistakes which make your home look tacky
WHEN it comes to decorating your home there are some tacky trends you may want to avoid.
An interior design expert has shared his thoughts on common interior design features that may be hindering your classy space.
YouTuber Garrett Le Chic shared the common décor mistakes which are making your home look tacky.
The interior design expert discussed the tired and overused way of displaying cushions.
“We need to get rid of the karate chopped pillow. It’s overly staged, it just doesn’t feel comfortable,” the YouTuber said.
Garrett also suggested ditching your old college dorm futon and investing in a pull-out soda instead.

He explained: “A futon sofa is not elevating the home. A futon sofa can make a space look a little bit transient and not really curated.”
Another popular décor item the interior designer recommended avoiding is fur or shag rugs.
“There’s so many reasons for this. One is it’s very trendy and it gets out of trend very quickly,” Garrett told his audience.
He added: “They’re a little bit more high maintenance to take care of. A shag carpet literally has to be raked, absolutely not.”

You should also opt for a wooden coffee table instead of an Ottoman, according to Garrett.
He said: “I don’t recommend an Ottoman coffee table because they’re more difficult to set things down on. It doesn’t matter if you have kids or not, if you put a glass of wine on it, it’s probably going to spill.”
The current minimalist trend of facing your book spines inwards so that only the pages are visible is another move Garrett suggested avoiding.
“I don’t know anyone that loves backwards books because they look like they came out of a staged model home by some builder who’s trying to sell it to a generic audience,” the interior designer explained.

And finally, marble pattern on household items such as dishes, water bottles, and cushions can make your home look tacky.
“Things that are made of marble that aren’t supposed to be made of marble, they don’t look real, they look fake. I don’t need marble pillows or drapes, or cutlery, dishes,” Garrett concluded.
