Abandoned bunker used for most sickening human experiments imaginable by ghouls in ‘Unit 731’ is found after 78 years
AN ABANDONED bunker used for the most sickening human experiments has been uncovered after 78 years.
The World War II “horror bunker” was discovered near the city of Anda in northeast China.
It is thought to be the largest test site of Japan’s infamous Unit 731, which carried out chilling human experiments during the 1940s.
Archaeologists stumbled across the grisly find in the Heilongjiang province where it has lay unearthed for nearly eight decades.
Built by the Japanese in 1941, the secret underground bunker was used to conduct gruesome tests and experiments on Chinese, Korean, Russian and American captives.
Up to 12,000 men, women and children were brutally tortured in the terrifying bunker and eventually killed by Unit 731’s ghastly acts.
The chilling experiments consisted of the group exposing the human subjects to dehydration, killing them inside spinning centrifuges, injecting them with diseased animal blood and zapping them with X-rays.
Unit 731 would also vivisect individuals without anaesthesia and keep them trapped in pressure chambers until their eyeballs burst.
The bunkers were also used for testing grenades, bacterial bombs, flamethrowers and chemical weapons.
Plague-infected fleas bred in Unit 731’s labs were also scattered over Chinese cities via low-flying planes which caused deadly disease outbreaks that wiped out hundreds of thousands of civilians.
The unit’s researchers had developed ways to weaponise bubonic plague, anthrax, cholera and typhoid fever.
Sakaki Hayao, the former commander of Unit 731’s Lin Kou branch, recalled seeing people tied to wooden poles and exposed to anthrax through bacteria filled bombs, in his testimony to the Shenyang special military tribunal in 1956.
But archaeologists have now partially uncovered the U-shaped building structure which measures a giant 108ft long and 67ft wide.
Following its shocking discovery, researchers from the Heilongjiang Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology said: “It also highlights the ongoing legacy of Unit 731’s atrocities and their impact on global efforts to prevent biological warfare,” South China Post reported.
In photo’s of the historic find, the structure can be seen to have interconnecting rooms and secret tunnels stemming from it.
The nightmare building has not yet been entered by those who discovered it, but researchers believe that the rooms will consist of laboratories, observation and dissection rooms, holding cells, barracks, garages, bath houses, dining areas and wells.
The once heavily guarded area was surrounded by barbed wire fencing and triangular metal frames used as bombing targets which archaeologists are still keen to unearth.
The bunker was used by the Japanese during their occupation of China from 1931 to 1945 but its exact location has been a mystery until now.
After Japan’s surrender in 1945, the US covered up evidence of the unit’s gruesome acts and granted immunity to the leaders of the group in exchange for their research.
Most of this information was later moved to Fort Detrick in Maryland which was the centre of the US Cold War biological weapons program between 1943 and 1969.
Archaeologists have said they will continue their excavation of the site and collect further information on the rooms in order to uncover more dark truths about the horror bunker.
