Every TV show and film hitting Disney+ in 2024 – including Happy Valley boss’ gritty drama and three new Marvel series
DISNEY+ has confirmed the upcoming titles set to premiere exclusively on its platform in 2024.
The streamer is adding new TV series, blockbuster movies and exclusive Originals next year from its six brands, including Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, and Star.
In October, Disney+ announced its November TV and film arrivals, which included some Christmas specials such as The Santa Clauses ( November 8), Dashing Through The Snow” (November 17), Loki – Season Two finale (November 10) and many others.
For its December releases, the platform welcomed titles such as The Naughty Nine (December 1), Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Cabin Fever” (December 8 ), Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (December 15), Percy Jackson and the Olympians (December 20), and Italian Original series “Raffa” (December 27).
As the streamer gets into the festive season and celebrated its 35th anniversary, all streaming now, it also added classics such as The Muppets Christmas Carol, “Home Alone and Die Hard.
New Movies and TV shows landing on Netflix in 2024
Modern Family S11 – January 1
Disney is kicking off the new year with the eleventh and final season of Modern Family, allowing subscribers to binge every season from start to finish.
The five-time Emmy award-winning comedy series and the wonderfully blended clan are back.
The series follows three families, starting with the head honcho Jay Pritchett, played by Ed O’Neil, his wife Gloria, played by Sofia Vergara, their youngest son, Joe, and Gloria’s son, Manny, played by Rico Rodriguez, who is heading off to university soon.
Jay’s eldest adult, Claire, portrayed by Julie Bowen, and her husband, Phil, played by Ty Burrell, with their adolescent children Luke, played by Nolan Gould, Alex, played by Ariel Winter, and Haley, played by Sarah Hyland are the second family on the show trying to learn how to navigate through life.
Then there’s Claire’s brother and Jay’s eldest son, Mitchell, played by Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and his husband, Cameron, portrayed by Eric Stonestreet, and their middle-school-aged daughter Lily, played by Aubrey Anderson-Emmons.
Throughout the upcoming final series, the unique and modern family will keep giving fans an honest insight into their often hilarious lives.
Marvel Studios’ Echo – January 10
All episodes of the new Marvel series Echo, which tells the original story of ruthless villain Maya Lopez(Alaqua Cox), whose dangerous behaviour in New York City catches up with her, will be available once it lands on the platform.
In order to move forward in her hometown, Maya must reconnect with her Native American roots while embracing the meaning of community and family so she can face her past and become triumphant.
The series will also star The English’s Chaske Spencer, Goliath star Graham Greene, Killers of the Flower Moon’s Tantoo Cardinal, FX’s Reservation Dogs star Devery Jacobs, Godfather of Harlem’s Vincent D’Onofrio and many other rising stars.
The series is directed by Sydney Freeland and Catriona McKenzie, with executive producers Kevin Feige, Stephen Broussard, Louis D’Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, Victoria Alonso, Richie Palmer, Jason Gavin Marion Dayre and Sydney Freeland and Co-executive producers Jennifer L. Booth and Amy Rardin.
Cristóbal Balenciaga – January 19
The Spanish limited drama series Cristóbal Balenciaga tells the story of one of fashion’s most prominent designers, a man who dared to dream big.
The series begins in 1937 when the designer presents his first couture collection in Paris and follows his success and trials as he starts to become one of the most important couture designers of all time.
The original Disney+ drama stars Alberto San Juan and an international cast of actors, including Belén Cuesta (Fabiola de Mora y Aragón), Josean Bengoetxea (San Sebastian businessman Nicolás Bizkarrondo), and Cecilia Solaguren (his wife, Virgilia Mendizabal), to name a few.
A Real Bug’s Life- January 24
The new Disney+ original series from National Geographic, which took inspiration from the world of Disney and Pixar’s A Bug’s Life, is an incredible adventure into nine different micro bug worlds globally.
Viewers will enter an unseen micro-verse and deep dive into the lives of these insects, where the forces of nature play out on a miniature scale.
The cutting-edge filming techniques will reveal the charismatic cast of miniature heroes relying on their mind-blowing superpowers to survive daily.
FX’s Shōgun –Shōgun – Febuary 27
This upcoming limited drama series based on James Clavell’s novel, FX’s “Shōgun”, is set in 1600 Japan at the dawn of a century-defining civil war.
It follows Lord Yoshii Toranaga, played by Hiroyuki Sanada, as he fights for his life while his enemies on the Council of Regents unite against him.
John Blackthorne, played by Cosmo Jarvis, comes bearing secrets that could help Lord Yoshii tip the scales of power and devastate the formidable influence of his enemies.
Lord Yoshii’s and John’s fates become inextricably tied to their translator, Toda Mariko, played by Anna Sawai.
Toda must reconcile her newfound companionship with Blackthorne as a commitment to the faith that saved her and a duty to her late father.
Movies landing on Disney+ in 2024, but dates are yet to be confirmed.
The Ballad of Renegade Nell
Derry Girls’ Louisa Harlan will star in this highly anticipated series created by Sex Education director and BAFTA nominee Ben Taylor and Happy Valley creator and award-winning writer and producer Sally Wainwright.
The upcoming British historical TV series premiering next spring follows Louisa’s character Nell Jackson in 1705 England on the run with her sister after being framed for murder.
With help from her sister and sidekick, a brave little sprite called Billy Blind, she turns to highway robbery for survival but soon ends up on the wrong side of the law.
Trying to turn her bad luck positive, Nell plots and plans to defeat a magical plot against the Queen of England.
Camden
Award-winning singer Dua Lipa executively produced this forthcoming and heart-warming documentary series featuring some of the world’s biggest music acts that were shaped by Camden, alongside some of the careers that were broken by it.
This new evocative series follows how a small corner of North London changed music, with access to Camden and gives the tiny area the recognition it deserves on a global stage.
Confirmed to feature in the series are Dua Lipa, Chris Martin, Pete Doherty, Mark Ronson, Questlove, Little Simz, Nile Rodgers, Boy George, Yungblud, Black Eyed Peas, Jazzie B, Bob Vylan, Chuck D and Sister Bliss.
Extraordinary S2
Emma Moran’s award-winning show has been renewed for a second season, and the fresh comedy will pick up where season one left off.
Season 1 followed Jen, a painfully self-aware 25-year-old woman played by Máiréad Tyers, living in a world where everyone but her has superpowers.
She is thrust into a harsh and hilarious reality, waiting for her superpowers to activate magically.
Armed with nothing but a bit of hope, desperation, and her flatmates, the 25-year-old begins her journey to find her maybe-superpower.
Along with Máiréad, the new series will also be starring Sofia Oxenham, Bilal Hasna, Luke Rollason, and Siobhán McSweeney.
Black Cake
This new mini-series from Marissa Jo Cerar, Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Films, and Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment is a family murder mystery drama with global locations and a diverse cast.
Based on The New York Times-bestselling novel by Charmaine Wilkerson, the story will be set in Jamaica, Italy, Scotland, England and Southern California.
The TV adaptation of the same name was written by Cerar, who also serves as showrunner on the series, which spans decades.
The new series, set in the late 1960s, follows a runaway bride called Covey on the run for her husband’s murder.
She is feared drowned or a fugitive after disappearing into the surf off the coast of Jamaica.
In present-day California, the story of Covey is narrated by a widow named Eleanor Bennett, who loses her battle with cancer, leaving her two estranged children, Byron and Benny, a flash drive that rocks their world.
Through the tapes, her children discover the untold stories of her journey from the Caribbean to America, challenging everything they thought they knew about their family’s origin.
Shardlake
This new four-part drama series starring Arthur Hughes, Anthony Boyle and Sean Bean is based on the internationally popular Tudor murder mystery novels by C.J. Sansom.
The new series set in England during the 16th century during the dissolution of the monasteries is doused in mystery, suspense and deception in an eerie whodunnit action-packed adventure.
It tells the story of Shardlake, played by Arthur, who has a sheltered life as a lawyer, which gets turned upside down when Cromwell commands him to investigate a murder in the remote town of Scarnsea.
Failure is not an option for Shardklake as he starts to investigate the death of one of his commissioners at a monastery.
For Cromwell’s political survival, Shardlake must solve the murder and close the monastery, which the commissioner was gathering evidence to close down.
Star Wars: The Acolyte
The new mystery-thriller will take subscribers and Star Wars fans into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the last days of the High Republic era.
The series will see a former Padawan reunite with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes.
The pair end up in dangerous trouble after being confronted by forces far more sinister and robust than they ever imagined.
Leslye Headland created the upcoming TV series as part of the Star Wars franchise.
Death And Other Details
Set amidst the glamour of the global elite, this new series centres on the brilliant and restless Imogene Scott, played by Violett Beane.
Imogen finds herself in the wrong place at the wrong time due to her own fault and ends up becoming the prime suspect in a locked-room murder mystery.
Set in a lavishly restored Mediterranean ocean liner, with the suspects being every pampered guest and every exhausted crew member.
But there is one problem, how will she prove her innocence?
Imogen must team up with a man she despises the most and the world’s greatest detective, Rufus Cotesworth, played by Mandy Patinkin.
FX’s FEUD: Capote Vs. The Swans
A new limited series from Ryan Murphy, based on the book Capote’s Women: A True Story of Love, Betrayal, and a Swan Song for an Era by Laurence Leamer, is set in high-society New York.
The series stars Naomi Watts, Tom Hollander, Diane Lane, Chloë Sevigny, Calista Flockhart, Demi Moore, Molly Ringwald, Treat Williams, Joe Mantello and Russell Tovey.
It tells the story of acclaimed writer Truman Capote, who surrounded himself with a coterie of society’s most elite women whom he nicknamed “the swans.”
After ingratiating himself into the lives of the wealthy, glamorous socialites who defined a bygone era of high society in New York, he went on to befriend them and become their confidante, only to betray them by exposing and publicising their most intimate secrets.
He wrote a thinly veiled fictionalisation of their lives from the book Answered Prayers, which was published in Esquire.
After it went public, it destroyed his relationship with his swans and banished him from the high society he was so captivated by and most loved.
This sent Truman into a downward spiral of self-destruction from which he never recovered from.
Futurama
Season 12 of Futurama will return to the streaming platform in 2024 with all-new adventures from Fry, Bender, and Leila.
The season 12 cast will likely see the return of the whole Planet Express crew.
Disney+ subscribers are expected to hear familiar cast members reprise their roles, including Katey Sagal as Leela, John DiMaggio as Bender, Phil LaMarr as Hermes Conrad, Lauren Tom as Amy Wong and Billy West as Philip J. Fry/Professor Farnsworth/Dr. Zoidberg/Zapp Brannigan.
