Hurricanes defensive end Cyrus Moss enters transfer portal
A day after tight end Jaleel Skinner announced his plans to transfer, another top player from Mario Cristobal’s first UM recruiting class is entering the transfer portal.
Defensive end Cyrus Moss is departing Miami, he announced on social media on Wednesday. He is the eighth Miami player publicly known to be transferring this offseason.
Thank you Miami!” Moss wrote on social media. “I am forever grateful for the opportunity. I won’t forget the family I’ve gained here. I wish nothing but the best to the (Hurricanes) organization going forward.”
Moss was a high-level recruit coming out of Las Vegas powerhouse Bishop Gorman. He was rated a four-star prospect in 247Sports’ composite rankings and was listed as the No. 8 edge rusher and No. 70 player in the class.
He made a strong first impression in his first spring at UM, notching two sacks in Miami’s 2022 spring game.
However, Moss was limited by his weight. He arrived at Miami weighing less than 200 pounds. He was listed at 215 pounds this year.
“He’s struggled trying to keep weight on,” defensive line coach Jason Taylor said in April, “and I can relate to that.”
Moss played in five games over the last two years, making one tackle. He played a total of 50 defensive snaps the last two seasons.
Moss is the third UM defensive lineman to announce that he is leaving via the transfer portal, joining Jahfari Harvey and Chantz Williams.
