What Is Laser Hair Removal?

According to Brandi Gregge, FNP-BC, MBA, laser hair removal is a process that targets the melanin in hair follicles using concentrated laser beams. The laser delivers highly concentrated light to destroy the hair follicle so less hair grows back. 

Hair grows in cycles, so multiple sessions are necessary. Effectiveness varies with hair and skin color, being most effective on dark hair and fair skin.

Is At-Home Laser Hair Removal Safe?

At-home laser devices are generally safe as long as the device is used as directed. Possible side effects can include redness and temporary discomfort, though those tend to subside quickly. 

Do not use a laser hair device on skin that is sunburned, tanned, or spray tanned. Treatments should never be done on moles, tattoos, or wounds either.

I recently put the Air 10 to the test and was impressed. While I’ve already had professional laser treatments on my underarms and bikini, once you have one hair-free zone, chances are you’ll look at the little sprouts on your big toe (or lip or chin or wherever) and think, “Hmm…those need to go too.” I wanted to take the device to those smaller areas as well as my lower legs.
