How safe is the state of Kansas?
TOPEKA (KSNT) - How safe do you think the Sunflower State is. Experts with a personal finance company took a look at answering this question.
WalletHub recently released the results of its Safest States in America (2024) study on Oct. 21, ranking each of the 50 states on a list of safest to least safest. The study relies on factors like personal and residential safety, financial safety, road safety, workplace safety and emergency preparedness for its methodology to identify which states are considered the safest.
Kansas ranks on the lower end of the study, coming in at rank 35 overall. While factors like road and financial safety were relatively high, Kansas lags behind with emergency preparedness and workplace safety. It was given the following statistics across the five metrics recorded by WalletHub:
- Personal and residential safety - 28.
- Financial safety - 17.
- Road safety - 12.
- Workplace safety - 34.
- Emergency preparedness - 45.
WalletHub identified the safest states in the country as primarily being in the northeast. The least safe states were mostly located in the south and southeast.
