Lib Dem leader Sir Ed Davey prepares to take on Metro in festive Fifa faceoff
It’s the dramatic Christmas faceoff literally everybody is baffled by. This afternoon, Metro will take on Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey on Fifa.
Westminster’s top stuntman has recently been mouthing off on TikTok, calling on his fellow knight Sir Keir Starmer to go 1v1 with him to decide who’s the greatest virtual footballer.
So far, the PM has not taken up the gauntlet. But we at Metro thought it was only fair to test Sir Ed ahead of the potential challenge.
Senior political reporter Craig Munro and gaming TikTok guru Izzie Jones will travel over to Lib Dem HQ later today for the UK’s first newspaper versus party leader PlayStation 5 showdown.
Helping out Sir Ed will be a group of young carers, like those he sings alongside in his pitch at the 2025 Christmas number one, titled ‘Love is Enough’.
The deadline for sales that will count towards the title is midnight tonight, meaning our gaming session will also serve as a last chance to encourage the public to buy his single before he finds out if he’s following in the footsteps of Wham! and Slade.
So, there’s an awful lot more riding on our Fifa match than just bragging rights. (We’ve also suggested we get his knighthood if we win.)
Adding to the pressure, Craig will also be attempting to interview Sir Ed about young carers, his Christmas plans and various other pertinent Lib Dem issues.
If that sounds like it’s going to be complete chaos, you’re probably right. And it’s all going to be streamed live on the Metro and Lib Dem TikTok channels.
Tune in to watch Metro’s man in parliament – who, despite still being relatively youthful, knows next to nothing about video games, football or TikTok – struggling to find his way around the controller.
Then stick around for Izzie, who is actually quite good at Fifa, and the talented young carers showing us all how it’s meant to be done.
Because nothing says ‘Christmas’ like a madcap gaming livestream with Britain’s biggest newspaper and the MP for Kingston and Surbiton.
