James Maddison names the least skilful Spurs player – It may surprise you
James Maddison has named the least skilful player at Spurs, and the vice-captain doubts his teammates can even do keepy-uppies.
James Maddison is one of Spurs’ most skilful players
James Maddison is a technically gifted player who offers a lot going forward. Whether it is his pinpoint passing, clever layoffs or determined dribbling, the former Leicester City man has a variety of skills.
In his most recent Premier League appearance, Maddison displayed his quality, scoring two goals as Tottenham thrashed Southampton. For his first, he ran in behind the defence and beat Alex McCarthy, while his second was simply brilliant, as he pulled the ball back, sending the defender flying, before squeezing it into the top right corner.
Despite facing some criticism this season, which includes him being dropped, Maddison has worked hard to get back to his best. He is currently Tottenham’s top scorer in the league, while only Spurs captain, Heung-min-Son, has more assists.
James Maddison says Micky van de Ven is Spurs’ least skilful player
Maddison may be let off for dishing the dirt on his teammates, considering some of his outstanding performances for Spurs. However, one player he has chosen to throw under the bus has also been impressive for the club.
According to Maddison, despite his impressive pace and solid defending, Micky van de Ven is the least skilful player in the Tottenham first-team squad.
Speaking to Pro:Direct Soccer, when asked which members of the Spurs team has no skills on them, he said: “I know who it is. I think I’m going to go for Van de Ven, big Micky.
“He has pace, he has a lot of that, but if you asked him to do a few keepy-uppies. He’s massive, his eyes and his head are so far away from his feet. I love you Micky, I love you.”
Micky van de Ven is skilful in his own way
Although van de Ven may not be as flashy as Maddison, good defending requires skill and van de Ven is effective in this area. He has also shown he has a surprisingly good shooting technique for a defender, scoring a superb goal earlier in the year against Nottingham Forest.
And while raw pace may not be considered a skill, van de Ven officially became the fastest-ever Premier League player on record last season, clocking a speed of 37.38 km/h (23.22mph) in February against Brentford.
A lot of players, including juniors, can keep a ball in the air, but not many defenders can do what Van de Ven consistently does for Spurs.
