Flight attendant reveals grim secret behind the free hot towels given out on the plane
A STEWARDESS has revealed the dirty secret behind the free hot towels handed to passengers.
Some holidaymakers might look forward to the steamy refreshment when they get on board, but there’s something grim lurking on them.
Flight attendants sometimes hand them out after meals, or when flyers wake up from a snooze.
But Kate, a former first-class cabin crew member, revealed some passengers don’t just use the hot towels where they are supposed to.
She said in a TikTok: “Not everyone uses them just for their hands and faces, if you know what I mean.
“I’ve seen passengers put these cloths in all sorts of places.”
The ex-stewardess added in the comments that holidaymakers “stick them in all sorts of orifices”, including their genitals.
The secret inside information shocked users who viewed her video.
One blasted: “Never washing my face again with those.”
Another penned in disgust: “Nothing like a nice groin cleanse before lift-off.”
“Hahaha as an ex-aircraft cleaner, I would never touch them,” a third agreed.
A fourth joked: “Passengers traveling for 25 plus hours, they got bits to wash.”
It comes as another flight attendant shared the dirtiest part of the plane that everyone uses – and it’s not what you may think.
The flight attendant who goes by the name Flightbae.B on TikTok explained the gross revelation in her latest video.
She explained: “Did you know that seatback pockets are actually the dirtiest surface on the aircraft?
“They’re dirtier than the lavatories, they’re dirtier than the seat cushion, and they’re dirtier than the tray tables. Let me tell you why.
“It’s because they are never cleaned”.
She added: “Unless somebody vomits or there is something ooey or gooey in there, it doesn’t get cleaned.
“All cleaners do is go in and take out the trash.
“So all of those germs have accumulated and there is no regular cleaning of those surfaces, whereas the lavatories are regularly wiped down and sanitised.”
Meanwhile, another cabin crew member revealed a mistake passengers make in aeroplane toilets.
Plane bathrooms aren’t the cleanest places anyway, but most passengers end up making them even worse.
It turns out that cabin crew members actually expect the people on their flights to clean the toilet every time they use it.
Otherwise it can very quickly become messy and unhygienic.
In an article for Travel + Leisure, former flight attendant Jo Jo Harder explained what the basic expectations are for passengers.
She said: “Passengers should wipe off the toilet seat and basin, then discard paper towels in a trash container.”
Not all passengers are as dirty as others, however, with men apparently making more of a mess in plane toilets than women.
By standing up to pee instead of sitting down, they’re vastly increasing their chances of missing the target, which makes things far worse for other passengers who have to go in after them.
How to get a free upgrade to first class on a plane
Travelers often wonder how to secure an upgrade to first class without paying the premium price. According to a flight attendant, there are several strategies passengers can employ to increase their chances. Firstly, loyalty to an airline is crucial; frequent flyers and those with elite status are more likely to receive upgrades.
