Fulham make first contact to sign reported Tottenham midfield target
Fulham have reportedly reached out to the entourage of a Tottenham midfield target as the Cottagers hope to steal a march on Spurs in the transfer race.
Spurs have an opportunity to sign summer transfer target
Unlike the summer window, where the top clubs can clearly earmark who they want and go after them, the January window is one where teams are required to be extremely alert to market opportunities.
Tottenham have just discovered one such opportunity, with their summer midfield target, Douglas Luiz, thought to be on the shop window.
It emerged earlier this week that the Brazilian, who has not managed to settle at Juventus since his summer move from Aston Villa, is free to leave Turin this month and that Tottenham have been offered the chance to sign Douglas Luiz as they are known admirers of his.
Tottenham’s rivals make first move for Douglas Luiz
Meanwhile, TuttoJuve go a step further and say that Spurs do hold an interest in Luiz and have assessed the idea of bringing him back to the Premier League, with the club on the lookout for a midfielder of his profile.
However, the outlet states that Ange Postecoglou‘s men have not yet held any talks, let alone made an offer, for the former Villa man.
A new report from TuttoSport (as relayed by TMW) now claims that a concrete approach for Luiz has now come from Tottenham’s London rivals, Fulham.
Marco Silva’s men are thought to be keen to steal a march on others in the race for the Juve man and have now allegedly held talks with his agent, Kia Joorabchian, regarding a switch to Craven Cottage.
Do Tottenham need another number six?
It is unclear if a new number six is as much of a priority for Tottenham as additions in other positions across the pitch.
However, if Rodrigo Bentancur were to pick up an injury for a length of time, then it might force Postecoglou’s men to enter the market for another midfielder.
Luiz might be a decent stopgap, given that he comes with plenty of Premier League experience. Spurs may test the waters to see if the Bianconeri are willing to loan out the 26-year-old.
