‘The Masked Singer’ recap: 5 all-new mystery celebs bring down the house in ‘Carnival Night’
Grab your sequins and feather boas — it's "Carnival Night" on The Masked Singer!
Five new mystery celebs take the stage as panelists Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, Ken Jeong, and Rita Ora dissect the clues hoping to uncover which of your favorite stars are behind the wacky masks. Nick Cannon hosts the zany fun airing Wednesday, March 26 (8 p.m. ET/PT) on Fox. Find which Group C contestant was the first to unmask below.
Yorkie
Yorkie was the first to make her Masked debut and had this to say in her intro: "Becoming Yorkie is kismet. We’re both sassy, fashion-forward, and dare I say it — popular. But don’t be fooled by the designer dog looks. I’ve still got a bite. I mean, Yorkies were bred to catch rats — which is a good skill to have when you’ve been through everything I’ve been through. And girl, I’ve been through a lot of crazy stuff. One minute you’re so hot — the next it’s your time to go. But I didn’t roll over. Lucky for me, I’ve had music and it’s the one place I can truly express myself. It rescued me in my darkest hours and has led me here. Now, I’m hot and ready to go fighting for top dog status."
Yorkie sang "Hot to Go!" by Chappel Roan before revealing, "I was down bad, but then a lovely lady in Beverly Hills adopted me. Now I’m wearing Channel and eating caviar." The panelists' guesses were Chelsea Handler (Jenny), Paris Hilton (Rita), and Kyle Richards (Ken).
Stud Muffin
Next up, Stud Muffin was ready to spill some of his own tea before charming the audience on stage: "Becoming Stud Muffin makes sense because I’ve had a muffin top the majority of my life. I’ve always said if I could have any dream job, I would be a mascot. You get people pumped up and nobody knows who you are. That’s why I’m here as Stud Muffin — to rep my team. I learned from day one having a strong crew was the only way to score. But before we were sweeping up the competition, I was sweeping up the floors – literally. Until I found my right hook — with my shot at the big time. Me and my crew went from the muffin bottom to the muffin top. But we’re still those hungry players we were from the jump. Now, this Stud Muffin is here to hype y’all up because I came to win."
Stud Muffin sang "Jump Around" by House of Pain before divulging, "One of my teammates used to run with a mascot, and I thought it was so cool, but no. Love the idea, but love doesn’t cost a thing." The panelists' guesses were Method Man (Rita and Robin), Shaquille O’Neal (Ken), and Michael Jordan (Jenny).
Nessy
Nessy emerged from hiding and the mysterious creature had some explaining to do before his first performance: "Becoming Nessy just makes sense. I too am a gentle giant. I stick my neck out for the people I love — and I’m a little bit mysterious. Like that Loch Ness monster, some would call me a legend, but I’m a pretty private guy. Unless you venture deep into the acres of my estate, you might never catch a glimpse of me. Most of my neighbors, and even my mailman, don’t realize that I’m THAT guy with all the success. But this elusiveness is by my design. It allows me to live the best of both worlds. I get the glory and the solitude of my family. So now, as Nessy, I’m coming out of hiding to rock this stage with a classic. I hope I got this competition on Loch."
Nessy sang "Roxanne" by The Police before spilling this tidbit about himself: "I took a lot of time off to be with my family, but then being able to come on here and be invited back into the limelight, it really feels good." The panelists' guesses were Gene Simmons (Rita), Dan Reynolds from Imagine Dragons (Jenny), and Daryl Hall from Hall & Oates (Ken).
Cherry Blossom
Cherry Blossom was the fourth contestant to perform from Group C and had this to say about her first bloom: "To me, Cherry Blossom represents rebirth — a changing of seasons, which is why it’s perfect for me. And also, this is personal, I’m here to honor my close friend whose been here before. You could say we grew up together. He taught me to not take myself so seriously. There was no one who made me laugh more. Fast-forward to the day I turned on The Masked Singer and heard that voice. I knew from the very first note who it was. Now, while I’m excited to follow in their footsteps, I’m also terrified. I mean, I’ve done it all in my career, but I have never sung before. But, deep breath, I think it’s important for this Cherry Blossom to branch out and have a little fun. This is for one of the loudest personalities I know. Miss you, bud."
Cherry Blossom sang "Let's Get Loud" by Jennifer Lopez before admitting, "This is the scariest thing I’ve ever done, but I am channeling my kids’ confidence. One of them sings, but my legs are still noodles right now!" The panelists guesses were Tina Fey (Ken), Lori Greiner (Rita), and Jenny Garth (Jenny).
Mad Scientist Monster
Last to perform was Mad Scientist Monster, who shared some personal details about his emergence from the lab: "Becoming the Mad Scientist Monster fits perfectly for me because you have to be a little bit crazy, keep experimenting, and reinventing yourself — which is why I’m here. Sometimes in life you think you have the perfect equation — that things will be simple. I was on the path to become the best in my field. My skills made the scouts go wild. It seemed like everybody wanted to recruit me to their team. But when it was time for my chance, everything combusted. They sidelined me. I about lost my mind, but in the chaos a new experiment bubbled to the surface. You see, for every action there is a reaction. My reaction changed the world. I found my purpose. So yeah, it turns out I’m not crazy. I’m just a little mad. So stay awhile because there’s a high probability I’ll melt your heart."
Mad Scientist Monster sang "Unwell" by Matchbox Twenty before revealing, "You know what? This is so important to me because it gives me an opportunity to reintroduce myself to fans in a way that they’ve never seen before." The panelists' guesses were Luke Bryan (Jenny), Luke Combs (Ken), and Blake Shelton (Robin).
The Elimination
Following the audience vote, Cherry Blossom was eliminated from the competition. Before she revealed herself, the panelists got to open up a "Crack the Case" clue case. Cherry Blossom's case held a button that, when pressed, showed Joey Fatone stating, "She's part of one of the most famous TV families of the '90s." When asked what it meant, Cherry Blossom responded, "That’s right, I didn’t get here on my own. I had my family by my side and they will always be a part of me." The panelists then submitted their final guesses: Jenny Garth (Jenny), Jessica Biel (Rita), Tina Fey (Ken), and Tracey Gold (Robin). Cherry Blossom finally peeled off her mask and revealed herself as Full House and Fuller House star Candace Cameron Bure! Despite so many clues pointing to her TV dad, the late Bob Saget ( and Season 4 Squiggly Monster), Cameron Bure stumped the panel.
