Alex Rodriguez Speaks Out About Brett Gardner’s Son
Alex Rodriguez has spoken out about the tragic death of Brett Gardner's 14-year-old son, Miller.
"I'll tell you, from someone who has two daughters, I can't even begin to comprehend the feelings," Rodriguez told People magazine in an article published on Thursday, March 27 — which is also opening day for the New York Yankees.
"My thoughts and prayers go out to him, his wife, Jessica, and obviously his entire family," the former Yankees third baseman continued.
Miller died after falling ill while on vacation in Costa Rica with his family. Reports indicate that a few members of the family got sick, but that Miller died in his sleep from unknown causes. One theory is that he had an allergic reaction to medication that he was given after getting sick. However, the teen's cause of death is pending an autopsy which could take several weeks.
Rodriguez and Gardner had the chance to play together on the field before A-Rod's retirement in 2016.
"Brett was someone who entered our team as a very young player, feisty," Rodriguez told People. "He was always like blue collar, great work, fan favorite. He's just a great, great competitor and a better human being."
The Gardner family is anxiously awaiting answers.
"We have so many questions and so few answers at this point, but we do know that he passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of Friday, March 21st," the family said in a statement shared by the New York Yankees on X on March 23.
