Duke Cheerleaders Turn Heads With Photos Before Elite Eight
Behind every great team is an equally fantastic group of cheerleaders, and in that spirit, the legendary Duke Blue Devils have that in their official Duke cheerleading squad.
The squad has cheered the Blue Devils to many victories this season, the most recent being a 100-93 win over No. 4 seed Arizona on March 27. That win snagged No. 1 seed Duke a spot in this weekend's Elite Eight.
Even though Arizona fell to Duke, following the game, head coach Tommy Lloyd talked his team up.
"Super proud of our guys," Lloyd said. "Our guys really hung with it this year, and the season was obviously an adventure, but I wouldn't have it any other way."
Regarding the strategy of the Sweet 16 win, Duke junior guard Tyrese Proctor said, "We just did the little plays to keep our lead, to keep it extended, and then it just came down to fouls and free throws.”
Duke head coach Jon Scheyer added, "One of the best tournament performances I’ve ever coached or been a part of."
The Duke cheerleaders were out in full force for the Sweet 16 game. On March 28, the team took to their Instagram page to share glowing photos of three of the cheerleaders smiling into the camera after the win. "Feeling 2x elite," the caption on the photo stated.
"And Duke keeps dancing," one commenter stated on the post, in all caps. Others responded with fire and blue heart emojis.
Also ahead of the game, the team shared a photo of the cheerleaders getting on the airplane to Newark, New Jersey, captioned with a bunch of airplane emojis.
"I’m ready for Friday," one follower stated on the photo, referring to the Sweet 16 game.
Duke will take on No. 2 Alabama at 8:49 p.m. EDT on March 29.
