Virat Kohli has given great performance on the field and has grabbed a lot of attention, as the Indian cricketing star has delivered a memorable Indian Premier League (IPL) season and demonstrated his value for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
Virat Kohli’s earnings in the IPL have gone up by a massive amount over the time. His IPL career began with a moderate salary of Rs. 12 lakh in 2008, which gradually increased, going to Rs. 8.28 crore between 2011 to 2013, then to Rs. 12.50 crore between 2014 to 2017, and Rs. 17 crore from 2018 to 2021.
However, a massive portion of his earnings is written off as tax. According to Taxology India, Kohli’s salary has gone down from Rs. 15 crore between 2022 and 2024, but witnessed another spike of 40% this year.
Under the Section 28 of the Income Tax Act, 1961, IPL earnings are labelled as income from business or profession, and fall into the highest tax bracket. After tax deductions, Kohli’s earnings in IPL 2025 comes close to Rs. 12.81 crore.
As he has a check of Rs. 21 crore, Kohli is among the top players in the earning chart for Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Josh Hazlewood comes next, with earning of Rs. 12.50 crore followed by Bhuvneshwar Kumar with an earning of Rs. 10.75 crore.
Since his IPL debut in 2008, Virat Kohli has earned a total of Rs. 179.90 crore in salary. His consistent performance and world-wide fanbase have solidified himself as one of the highest-paid cricketers in history of IPL.
