Child, 4, fights for his life after crash kills mom, siblings: NYPD
GRAVESEND, Brooklyn (PIX11) — A little boy is left fighting for his life after his mother and sisters were killed in a crash in Gravesend.
A 35-year-old mother was out for a walk with her three young children when a car crashed into the family around 1:04 p.m. Saturday near Quentin Road and Ocean Parkway, police officials said.
The mother and her two daughters, ages 8 and 6, were killed in the crash, according to the NYPD. A 4-year-old boy remains in critical condition on Sunday morning, police said.
“To see a mother and her two children lost to a vehicle crash, this is extremely concerning and painful,” Mayor Eric Adams said.
The driver who allegedly hit the family, Miriam Yarimi, never should have been on the road because she had a suspended license, according to Tisch.
Yarimi allegedly first crashed into another car on the road, then hit the family as they walked in a crosswalk, Tisch said. Then, her car flipped, Tisch said. The occupants of the car that was hit were hospitalized, police said.
“Speed certainly may have been a factor,” Tisch said.
A neighbor described the moment she saw her father, an EMT, sprinting over to help.
“My dad is an EMT, so he came here first. I just see him sprinting down the block," Robin said. “I see that car over there just smashed in the back and that car over there flipped over and people on the floor just hit, very obviously hit."
