Kentfield demonstrators protest Newsom position on transgender athletes
More than 100 protesters marched through Kentfield — home to Gov. Gavin Newsom — on Monday to show their support for the transgender community.
“There’s lots of allies here who are not transgender,” said Janna Barkin, a member of Rainbow Families Action, an event organizer. “We just want trans people to know that we love them and we will stand and we will fight.”
The event was held on International Transgender Day of Visibility.
Newsom has come under criticism for saying on his podcast that allowing transgender women and girls to compete on women’s teams was “deeply unfair,” according to the Associated Press.
