Opelousas woman charged with murder in connection with fentanyl overdose
OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) -- An Opelousas woman has been charged with murder after allegedly supplying drugs used for a fatal overdose of fentanyl in August, authorities said.
Raketia Nicole Tyler, 35, of Opelousas, is charged with second degree murder, and is being held in the St. Landry Parish jail.
Officials said the overdose occurred in the 800 block of Lemoine Drive Aug, 27, when Opelousas Police officers responded to a medical emergency and discovered a female victim unresponsive inside an apartment. The unidentified victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators said Tyler had provided narcotics to the victim, which were later believed to contain fentanyl. Based on their findings, an arrest warrant was issued for Tyler, who was located and taken into custody on Saturday.
During an interview with investigators, Tyler allegedly admitted to providing the drugs on the night of the victim’s death.
Bond details were not released.
