Patrick Schwarzenegger’s Mom Swears He’s Not Like Saxon
Season three of The White Lotus has it all: Sex, drugs, incest, and a nepo baby. Patrick Schwarzenegger, son of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver, plays Saxon Ratliff, a spoiled, horny finance bro who works for his dad and is vacationing with his family at the White Lotus in Thailand. He’s shaping up to be quite the repulsive character, and Shriver wants you to know that her son is nothing like the person he plays on screen.
“Patrick is not like Saxon,” Shriver said during an appearance on Today to promote her new book of poetry, I Am Maria. “I just want to clear that up because people say, ‘Is Patrick like Saxon?’ I’m like, ‘Do you think I would’ve raised a Saxon?’” While no one would raise a Saxon on purpose, the two aren’t so different from one another: Saxon is a white, cisgender men (check) who works in the same industry as his father (check) and appears to have led comfortable, cushy lives where he’s gotten his way more often than not (check). It’s definitely possible that Schwarzenegger shares some similarities with his character, minus the North Carolina drawl, degree from Duke University, and foray into incest, of course.
Schwarzenegger previously told Today that he doesn’t want people to conflate him with Saxon, who he describes as a “weird and creepy kind of guy.” “But, you also can’t control what everybody thinks,” he said. And that’s true — he’s also spoken about how his family has influenced people’s opinions of him. “I know there are people who’ll say I only got this role because of who my dad is,” he told the Sunday Times. “They’re not seeing that I’ve had ten years of acting classes, put on [high] school plays every week, worked on my characters for hours on end or the hundreds of rejected auditions I’ve been on.” Sounds like something Saxon would say …
