Livvy Dunne & Paul Skenes Faced Problem in Relationship
Social media sensation Olivia "Livvy" Dunne and Pittsburgh Pirates superstar pitcher Paul Skenes are now one of the more high-profile couples in the world of sports and entertainment, but they faced a pretty significant problem as Dunne was trying to get to know Skenes initially – he didn't use social media.
Dunne is obviously very much involved in social media. In fact, she's built her entire career on it as an influencer and creator with more than 13 million followers across her various social platforms. But when she tried to get Skene's attention earlier in their relationship, there was a problem.
“He wouldn’t follow me back on Instagram,” Livvy told GQ Magazine in their recent cover story.
“I was like, Who is this kid and why won’t he follow me back?” Dunne continued.
Skenes wasn't intentionally ignoring Dunne. The truth is that while he did have an Instagram account, he did not use it very often as he instead liked to focus his attention on baseball.
Even if he didn't follow her back on Instagram, Skenes was still very much aware of who she was – but she didn't exactly know him besides some initial interest.
“Frankly, everybody knew,” he says. “She didn’t know who I was.”
Eventually they met in person since one of Paul’s best friends was dating one of Livvy’s teammates, but he wasn't exactly outgoing then, either.
“He was shy,” Livvy said.
“Kind of reserved” Paul explained
“Reserved, yes,” Livvy replied. “But I had ambition to get to know him.”
Eventually, the two did obviously get to know each other and have since formed a strong relationship.
Skenes, however, is still not a fan of Instagram as the couple revealed that he mostly lets Dunne post on the platform on his behalf.
Meanwhile, Skenes attempts to keep Dunne grounded ignore the noise and negativity of social media.
“He doesn’t care about what anyone thinks of him,” she says. “He knows what he’s doing is right. He’s not online.”
So what was a problem early in their relationship is now a strength.
