'The Bachelorette' Star Katie Thurston Diagnosed With Stage 4 Cancer
Last month, former star of "The Bachelorette" Katie Thurston revealed that she had been diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. Unfortunately, the cancer has now spread and she is in stage 4.
Last week, the reality television star revealed that her treatment was paused after doctors found spots on her liver, which they feared was a sign of metastatic disease.
On Friday, Thurston announced that those fears were confirmed and the cancer had indeed spread to her liver.
While the whole situation is undeniably scary, Thurston expressed optimism in a video she shared on social media on Friday.
"It is fairly small; however, that does put me at stage IV," she said in the video. "I know stage IV can sound very scary and it can be; however, given that I am triple positive and the spots on my liver are fairly small and detected early, I feel very optimistic on my outcome. I'm very confident in my team at Columbia."
Thurston appeared on season 25 of The Bachelor with Matt James where she was eliminated in Week 6. She returned to the series as the star of season 17 of The Bachelorette where she ultimately accepted a marriage proposal from 30-year-old wildlife manager Blake Moynes.
Despite the engagement, Thurston and Moynes broke up a few months after and Thurston ultimately ended up with Bachelor Nation alum and comedian Jeff Arcuri. The two announced last month that they had officially tied the knot and gotten married.
The 34-year-old reality star has been very open and transparent about her journey with breast cancer on social media since her diagnosis, and she will surely keep sharing updates, even with this recent setback.
