Horror as BODY is found on M5 forcing road to close in both directions
A BODY has been found on the M5 forcing the busy road to be shut down in both directions.
Traffic chaos and huge delays were sparked after the horror discovery, as well as a separate crash at just before 10am today.
West Midlands Police responded to reports of a body on the carriageway.
Officers have cordoned off Junction 3 at Quinton to J2 at Oldbury amid investigations.
Further details about the identity of the person are yet to be released.
The force were also called out to a crash between J3 and the M6 which has seen further closures.
West Midlands Ambulance service confirmed the smash involved two motorbikes and a car.
One motorcyclist was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital and the second was transported to Midlands Metropolitan University Hospital.
Both have been treated for “serious injuries”.
Drivers are being warned to use alternative routes, with National Highways warning of 50 minute queues.
A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “We are at the scene of two incidents on the M5 and it is currently closed in both directions at Oldbury/Quinton.
“It’s shut J3 at Quinton to J2 at Oldbury after a body was found in the carriageway.
“Following a separate collision it’s shut north between J3 and the M6.
“The closures are expected to be in place for some time and drivers are advised to find alternative routes.”
A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “Two men have been taken to hospital following an RTC involving two motorbikes and a car on the M5 this morning.
“West Midlands Ambulance Service was called at 9.55am to reports of a collision just after junction 1 of the M5 northbound in West Bromwich and sent two ambulances, a paramedic officer, a MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic to the scene.
“On arrival, crews found the motorcyclists, both men, requiring medical attention. Ambulance staff treated both patients for serious injuries.
“One man was conveyed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital and the second man was conveyed to Midlands Metropolitan University Hospital for further treatment.”
National Highways also confirmed that emergency services are on the scene between J1, West Bromwich, and the M6 interchange.
They added: “Emergency services are in attendance. National Highways contractors and Traffic Officers are assisting with traffic management.
“Traffic caught within the closure is in the process of being turned round and released via the rear of the queue.”

This comes after we reported the M1 was closed down earlier today after a multi-car crash.
Queues of more than a hour backed up for miles after lanes were shut down between junction nine for Harpenden and Dunstable, and junction eight for Hemel Hempstead.
National Highways said lane three of the inter-urban motorway in Hertfordshire has since reopened.
It added that there were seven miles of congestion and about 70 minutes of delays.
