When the Cut’s fashion market editor, Emma Oleck, isn’t lugging around multiple garment bags to style our February digital cover star, Doechii — she’s traveling with another handful of essentials. Packing her on-set bag becomes an art. We chatted with Oleck about what’s in her travel bag as a stylist.
Below are her nonnegotiables for both her professional and personal travels.
So, what’s in the Bags of a stylist ?
➼ Kit-Suitcase Essentials
➼ On-Set Bag
➼ Tool-Kit Essentials
➼ Personal Nonnegotiables
Kit-Suitcase Essentials
While each kit is curated specifically for the person being shot, it usually includes but is not limited to bras (strapless, push-ups, bralettes, backless, etc.), underwear, shapewear, and tights in their skin tone and sizing. Once you have the basics, you need the not-so-glamorous stuff. Here’s where the office kit comes out to play with the blank labels, pens, and push pins, along with the garment bags, the shoe inserts, and the baby powder.
On-Set Bag
Anything that might be needed in a jiff? It will be in this bag. It’s small enough to run around on set with and will always be on standby while we shoot. (The lubricant is for any latex pieces, BTW.)
Tool-Kit Essentials
Think of this as a very condensed, very cute, and very pink version of Oleck’s on-set bag. “I do not take this off my waist while shooting. This is where I keep everything that I constantly need,” she emphasizes. Tiny but mighty, it can hold everything that needs to problem-solve anything on the spot.
Personal Nonnegotiables
Oleck’s trusty vintage black leather duffel, which she inherited from her dad, is her go-to. Unless she is carrying a little bit more than usual, she uses an Away carry-on suitcase.
