George Clooney Looks Totally Unrecognizable in Broadway Debut
A-list actor George Clooney has dominated the big screen over the past several decades, and now he is trying his hand on Broadway, starring in a play called "Good Night, and Good Luck." And it looks like he has radically changed his appearance for the performance.
Over the past several years, Clooney has worn his iconic gray hair, which he has kept rather natural, and he does not typically use any noticeable styling products.
However, when the play opened on Thursday night, Clooney debuted a new hairstyle that made him look nearly unrecognizable to fans.
In the play, Clooney portrays American broadcast journalist and war correspondent Edward R. Murrow, who was in his 40s at the time in which the play is supposed to take place. As a result, Clooney had to turn back the clock a little bit with regard to his hairstyle.
Clooney has natural gray hair now, but Murrow certainly did not back then. So, in order to play the character correctly, Clooney had to dye his hair jet black. He also used a styling product to tame his hair a little bit – like Murrow did in the 1950s.
The result of the transformation left Clooney looking nearly unrecognizable.
Clooney had warned fans about this upcoming transformation during an interview with the New York Times back in February. In fact, it sounds like he had to warn his wife, too.
“My wife is going to hate it because nothing makes you look older than when an older guy dyes his hair,” he told the New York Times back in February. “My kids are going to just laugh at me nonstop.”
While Clooney certainly does not look bad by any means, it is definitely a jarring departure from his now-iconic salt-and-pepper gray hair. But he also looks very true to how Murrow himself looked in the early 1950s, so the goal of the transformation was accomplished.
