Major car brand reveals its fastest-ever EV with ‘funky’ lights and ‘completely different’ design
A MAJOR car brand has revealed its fastest-ever EV which comes with a range of new features.
Skoda’s Elroq vRS comes with a dual-motor powertrain that helps launch it from 0-62mph in just 5.4 seconds.
The speedy EV has a whopping top speed of 111mph and comes with four-wheel drive, in stark contrast to the standard Elroq which only comes in a rear-wheel drive form.
Skoda’s new motor also comes with a number of new features with its design, including a “funky light show” on the front of the vehicle when the car is unlocked.
On top of this, the model is the first sporty vRS to use Skoda’s “Modern Solid” design language.
This includes key features such as the new “Tech-Deck face”, which provides a number of sensors and radars to help with the car’s Adaptive Cruise Control and Traffic Jam Assist.
If both features are active, steering, braking and acceleration are automatically controlled in traffic jams, so long as your hands are on the wheel.
Skoda’s brand new motor is not just its fastest accelerating production car to date but also its quickest to charge too.
Capable of 185kW DC rapid charging, you can fill the battery up from 10 to 80 per cent in just 26 minutes, so long as you can find a suitable charger.
The vRS also comes with a sports chassis, lowering its suspension by 15mm at the front end, and by 10mm at the rear, compared to the standard Elroq, reports Top Gear.
A teaser of the motor released last week showed how the headlights appear to stretch across the car.
Additionally, there is also some black accenting on sections such as the roof rails and wing mirror caps, helping give the motor a more sleek look.
The rear bumper comes with a full-width reflector strip, and if you really want to kit the motor out, you can get vRS-specific alloys up to 21 inches in size.
Inside, passengers are treated to a giant 13 inch multimedia screen, while drivers get a appropriately-sized five inch display.
While these features are both found on the standard Elroq, the vRS has improved the graphics on these devices slightly.
The microsuede seats and upholstery all come with lime green stitching, helping create a modern feel inside the SUV.
Prices are expected to be announced later this month ahead of deliveries which are set to begin in the summer.
NEW ELECTRIC VEHICLES COMING TO UK IN 2026
This comes as a troubled carmaker revealed three new EVs last month.
Nissan announced the arrival of its all-new Leaf EV, as well as electric versions of its popular Qashqai and Juke models.
The latter two will both be built at the automaker’s Sunderland plant, which had been feared to be at risk of closure, following Nissan’s financial struggles.
The manufacturer also confirmed it would introduce a new small electric city car based on the popular Renault Twingo in 2026.
It came as part of a reorganisation of some of the key aspects of an alliance between French carmaker Renault with its Japanese counterparts Nissan and Mitsubshi.
The agreement has already seen Renault agree to produce a new electric version of the Nissan Micra, based on its own 5 model.
No additional details have yet been announced, except that Nissan’s Twingo counterpart will be smaller than the Micra.
