It is being alleged that Brand “raped a woman in Bournemouth in 1999, indecently assaulted a woman in 2001 in Westminster, London, orally raped and sexually assaulted a woman in Westminster in 2004, and between 2004 and 2005 sexually assaulted a woman, also in Westminster,” according to Deadline.
“The women who have made reports continue to receive support from specially trained officers,” Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy shared in a statement. “The Met’s investigation remains open and detectives ask anyone who has been affected by this case, or anyone who has any information, to come forward and speak with police. A dedicated team of investigators is available via email at CIT@met.police.uk.”
Police said they have “issued a charge and requisition” to Brand, whose residence is listed as Oxfordshire, South England, though he was being working and living in the United States for the past several years.
He could be detained by U.S. police under an international arrest warrant and The Home Office would have to submit a formal extradition request to Washington, DC on behalf of the CPS to seek his return to Britain to stand trial.
Brand, who has not publicly addressed the charges yet, is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London on May 2.
The new charges come after Russell Brand was accused of rape, sexual assault and emotional abuse by four women in September 2023. He was sued by another woman a few months later.
He denied those allegations, but an investigation into them is remains ongoing.
