Portland Auto Swap Meet, roller derby face-off among weekend events
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — From bookstore openings to a swap meet for vintage car enthusiasts, the Portland weekend ahead is jam-packed.
Here's a look at local events taking place through Sunday.
Heartless Heathers vs. High Rollers
When: Friday, Apr. 4 at 8 p.m.
Where: The Hangar at Oaks Park, SE Oaks Park Way, Portland, OR 97202
The Heartless Heathers and High Rollers, two of the Rose City Rollers’ home teams, will compete in an action-packed game. This Friday game’s theme is “Zodiac Night,” with attendees encouraged to wear an outfit inspired by their astrological sign.
Portland Auto Swap Meet
When: Friday, Apr. 4 from 7 a.m. – 6 p.m., Saturday, Apr. 5 from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday, Apr. 6 from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Where: Portland Expo Center, 2060 N Marine Dr, Portland, OR 97217
Car enthusiasts will gather at the Portland Expo Center for this swap meet featuring vintage vehicles, car parts and other collectibles. The 59th annual event cost $13 for adults on Friday and Saturday, and $5 on Sunday.
ManiFest - A Nail Art Movement
When: Friday, Apr. 4 and Saturday, Apr. 5 10 a.m. – 10 p.m., and Sunday, Apr. 6 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Where: Union/Pine, 525 SE Pine St, Portland, OR 97214
The inaugural ManiFest will flaunt the creativity that goes into nail art. The event will showcase a nail art gallery from 20 local and visiting artists, as well as other on-site installations. Tickets range from $25 to $30 for adults, and cost $15 for children.
Second Shapes Bookstore Grand Opening
When: Saturday, Apr. 5 from 10 a.m. – 10 p.m.
Where: 8124 N Denver Ave., Portland, OR 97217
The Kenton neighborhood is welcoming a new business, Second Shapes Bookstore, on Saturday. The shop’s grand opening celebration will include a kids’ storytime, coffee pop-up and a photo booth.
Naruto - The Symphonic Experience
When: Saturday, Apr. 5 at 7:30 p.m.
Where: Keller Auditorium, 222 SW Clay St, Portland, OR 97201
The “Naruto” symphonic experience reimagines the cult-favorite anime series with live music from an 18-piece orchestra. Organizers say the performers “will play Naruto’s critically acclaimed soundtrack in perfect harmony with the images, masterfully combining orchestral, pop-rock, and traditional Japanese instrumentation, bringing Naruto to life in a truly epic and authentic way.”
Mo Amer: El Oso Palestino Tour
When: Saturday, Apr. 5 at 10 p.m.
Where: Aladdin Theater, 3017 SE Milwaukie Ave, Portland, OR 97202
With two shows at the Aladdin Theater - one of which sold out - Palestinian-American comedian Mo Amer is bringing his stand-up to Portland. Amer stars in his eponymous Netflix dramedy “Mo” and appeared in the Hulu comedy “Ramu.”
Tag! Queer Shorts Festival
When: Saturday, Apr. 5 and Sunday, Apr. 6
Where: Hollywood Theatre, 4122 NE Sandy Blvd, Portland, OR 97212
For two days, the Hollywood Theatre will screen short films from LGBTQ+ communities. A weekend pass to the Tag! Queer Shorts Festival costs $45.
