GameStop Makes Major Nintendo Switch 2 Announcement Amid Tariffs
The highly anticipated release of Nintendo's Switch 2 received an unfortunate update on April 4.
The company announced it's delaying the long-awaited pre-order date for its new Switch 2 video game device amid uncertainty surrounding the new tariffs placed down against nations from around the world by the United States. The original pre-order date was set for April 9.
While the pre-order date has been delayed, the June 5 launch date remains on track.
“Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start April 9, 2025 in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions,” the company said in a statement. “Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 is unchanged.”
"GameStop will continue to work closely with Nintendo and provide updates as soon as more information becomes available. Stay tuned for further details."

Earlier this week the United States announced a baseline 10% reciprocal tariff was placed on all trading partners. Several other countries like China, India, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam are slated to be hit with tariffs of 34%, 26%, 32%, 36%, and 46%, respectively.
Amid the new tariffs both the Nasdaq and S&P 500 are on track for their worst week since the Covid panic of 2020. Meanwhile the Dow Jones Industrial Average has plunged 1,900 points, its biggest decline since June 2020 during the pandemic, as of April 4 afternoon.
China announced a 34% retaliatory levy on all American goods as a result of the tariffs placed by the United States.
