Upper, lower deck of I-35 closed following 2 separate crashes, 1 pedestrian fatality
AUSTIN (KXAN) — Both the upper and lower decks of Interstate 35 were closed Saturday morning after two crashes, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.
Austin-Travis County EMS said one person was dead after a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle on Interstate 35 at approximately 1:25 a.m. Saturday.
ATCEMS said medics performed CPR on the adult patient, but the patient died at the scene.
According to ATCEMS, the incident occurred near the 1100 block of North I-35 heading south, which is near 12th Street in downtown Austin.
Traffic has been diverted to the frontage road at exit 234C, according to TxDOT.
In a separate crash, TxDOT said all lanes were closed on southbound I-35 at Dean Keaton on the lower deck.
Extended road closures and traffic delays are expected in the area, and officials advised using alternate routes.
