Friday night house fire under investigation in Pittsfield
PITTSFIELD, Mass. (NEWS10) — A Pittsfield home sustained heavy damage following a late-night fire on Friday. The blaze was located at 206 Dalton Avenue, the Pittsfield Fire Department reported.
Fire crews were dispatched to the scene at about 10:39 p.m. following multiple reports of a heavy structure fire. Upon arrival, officials found the fire engulfing the front of the two-story home, with flames spreading into the front yard, Pittsfield officials said.
The fire was reportedly under control within about 15 minutes. Crews remained on scene for about an hour and half to ensure that the fire was completely put out.
No firefighters were injured and the home's sole occupant had safely evacuated with no injuries, the fire department said. A cat, who was initially believed to have died in the fire, was also reportedly found alive by the fire watch crew overnight.
The Dalton Avenue house had extensive damage to the front side and into the first floor, according to fire authorities. A large portion of the house only suffered smoke damage.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown, the Pittsfield Fire Department said. An investigation is reportedly ongoing.
