MP probed over ‘sexual assault’ at A-list Groucho Club
An MP has been questioned over an alleged sexual assault at London’s Groucho Club.
The assault is alleged to have taken place at the private members’ club in Soho in August 2023.
A man in his 30s, understood to be an MP, was interviewed under caution by police last month. Prosecutors must now decide if there is enough evidence to charge him.
Whether he knew he was under investigation when he stood for election in July is unclear.
Police said: ‘A Met spokesman said: ‘We are currently investigating reports of a sexual assault at Groucho Club in Soho in August 2023.
‘A man in his 30s was interviewed under caution at a London police station on Thursday, March 13.
‘A file of evidence has now been passed to the Crown Prosecution Service and enquiries continue.’
The famous venue, frequented by celebrities, had its licence briefly suspended by the council at the request of police after a separate alleged attack at the club on November 13.
A 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape and later released on bail.
Groucho Club was allowed to re-open in December with strict conditions attached to its licence. This included more supervision of its toilets and tighter restrictions on members’ guests.
Metro has contacted Groucho Club for comment.
This isn’t the only allegation of sexual misconduct against an MP in recent days.
