Seaman High duo sings the national anthem at Royals Opening Day
TOPEKA (KSNT) - Two local high school students got the opportunity of a lifetime. With dreams of becoming pop-stars, this duo takes it bigger each time they preform together.
Friendship duo of Victoria Villines and Serenity Spencer, two Seaman High students, have sung together over the past two years. Including the national anthem at many sporting events.
Recently, they have gotten to share their voices with Kansas City.
When they heard about the opportunity to sing the national anthem for the Kansas City Royals on Opening Day, they couldn’t imagine they would be standing in the diamond.
"My mom found the audition online and she submitted us and we made it through the first round and we were so excited, and we went in for a live audition," Victoria Villines said. "And we found out we made it we were like wow this is so exciting."
They say diamonds are a girls' best friend, but how does standing in one with your best friend sound? For the duo, walking out onto the field was a surreal experience.
"I wasn't nervous the whole day until I actually started walking out on the field," Serenity Spencer said. "We went into the interview room for about an hour. This is surreal, like this is like the real deal. We sung, we had our mics and I was very happy."
Although they will be separated in just a few short months with Victoria headed off to college, the two have even bigger plans ahead for their singing career, taking their talents next door and beyond.
"We're thinking about doing the Chiefs, trying to do the Chiefs," Villines said. "And then we're thinking about doing K-State. But we also want to branch out and try to do like more real songs and start performing."
If you missed opening day and haven't seen the duo around the capitol city, singing at hockey games or air shows, you may be able to catch them at one of their upcoming performances.
