Riding our 'weather-rama roller coaster' in Portland
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — As we tip off this new week in April, expect wet and cooler than normal afternoon temps for us here in Portland.
Yes, we are riding this roller coaster of daytime highs after two consecutive days where Portland maxed out in the 70s on Friday and Saturday. Now we start this week with the Portland metro looking to the mid- or upper-50s for those afternoon highs.
We'll say hello to nearly a 20-degree difference from what we saw Saturday to what the forecast is calling for on Tuesday. So get ready for that!
In case you're curious, our seasonal daytime high in Portland for this time in April is 60 degrees.
And be sure to have that rain gear at the ready, especially in the morning hours of both Monday and Tuesday. Those morning commutes look to be fairly wet with soaking rain at times.
Monday's rainfall totals for Portland and much of the Willamette Valley could tally between a half-inch to an inch-and-a-quarter.
The daytime highs will remain slightly below average for this time of the year through Tuesday, but then, warmer temps prevail mid-week with drier weather expected for the second half of our week.
Throughout Monday afternoon, the Oregon Coast and the Willamette Valley could see some gusty winds at times with a slight chance of an isolated thunderstorm. The coast should expect winds out of the southwest from 5-15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph, while the valley will see southerly winds of 15 mph with gusts up to 20 mph.
Speaking of the coast, there is still a higher threat of sneaker waves along the coast through Monday. So be extra cautious if you're heading out to the beach.
