Hugh Grant Calls Out Immigration Officer After Incident at Heathrow
Hugh Grant isn't too happy after an encounter with an immigration officer at London's Heathrow Airport.
On April 4, the Wonka star took to X to share his frustrations.
"Just came through Heathrow with wife and children. We all have the same last name (Grant) on our passports. Immigration officer engages my children in chit chat then whispers to them 'Are these your Mum and Dad?' Intrusive, insulting and creepy," Grant wrote.
Fans responded to Grant's post with many wondering why the actor was so upset with the officer, pointing out that he was likely just doing his job.
"Are you upset there are child protection measures in place or that you weren't recognised?" one person wondered.
"I’m sure child smuggling happens hence the question. It’s surely a good thing that a discreet well meaning question in an airport can ultimately help to keep children safe? I’m sure you wouldn’t want children to be harmed because passport control are afraid of embarrassing parents," someone else wrote.
"I was similarly stopped getting off the Eurostar with my two year old back in the late 90s. Easily sorted out, not intrusive at all and well meant. Why do you think it was insulting and creepy when it happened to you? Is it because they didn't know who you are?" another X user asked.
"It's for child safeguarding reasons. Be thankful the officer was doing their job correctly," another comment read.
Grant, 64, shares son John, 12, and daughters Lulu, 9, and Blue, 6, with his wife, Anna Eberstein, 46. He also shares daughter Tabitha, 13, and son Felix, 11, with actress Tinglan Hong.
