Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene Ripped to Shreds After Asking Followers to Venmo Her Son Beer Money
Marjorie Taylor Greene is feeling the heat after her birthday tribute for her son on X (formerly Twitter) went south. In a since-deleted (but screenshotted) tweet, the congresswoman from Georgia shared a photo with her son Derek and wrote, “It’s my baby boy’s birthday!! He’s 22!! I love him so much! Buy him a beer!” She then included a link to his Venmo account so followers could send him beer money.
Greene — who also shares kids Lauren and Taylore with ex Perry Greene — has an estimated net worth of nearly $22 million, and deleted her post soon after the negative comments started rolling in. Other X users have since shared screenshots of the tweet, and people are not impressed with the millionaire’s request.
“WTF?!? [Greene] you have enough money. You can buy your own kids birthday gifts,” one person said.
Marjorie Taylor Greene, a sitting member of Congress who is worth many millions of dollars, posted a birthday message for her son—along with a link to his Venmo account, encouraging her supporters to send him money.

“Yeah I’m a conservative but there’s no way I’m sending a millionaire’s adult son money. Especially to buy beer,” another said.
Others called the post “trashy,” “disgusting,” “highly inappropriate,” and “ultra tacky.”
While some people thought it was a harmless move from a proud mom, others thought that the elected official should not be given the same grace as a bridesmaid asking people to buy the bride a drink at the bachelorette party.
“Just seems wildly inappropriate for a member of Congress to be asking people to donate to their son no matter the economic times,” one person commented while another said this “should be an impeachable offense.”
Though the stakes are quite different (again, MTG is an elected official), the story is reminiscent of the fury Alyssa Milano sparked last year when she created a GoFundMe for her son’s baseball team. As an actress with an estimated net worth of $4 million, many thought she should be footing the bill for her son.
The Charmed alum later defended herself, saying she has financially contributed to the team. I’ve paid for uniforms for the entire team and coaches, thrown bday parties and sponsor any kid who can’t afford monthly dues,” she said, per Page Six.
MTG has yet to issue a statement on whether she also contributes to her son’s beer funds.
