Early Rotten Tomatoes Score for 'The Last of Us' Season 2 Is Turning Heads
One of the most popular video games-turned-television shows in history is back for season two. After a stellar debut season, The Last of Us returns on April 13, 2025, on HBO for the first of seven episodes.
Pedro Pascal, who plays Joel Miller and Bella Ramsey (Ellie Williams) return to the show following a mega-successful first season. Critics raved about the show's debut, with Rotten Tomatoes giving it a 96% out of 486 ratings.
The Last of Us season one also earned a "Popcornmeter" score (audience reviews) of 88% based on more than 10,000 ratings.
While it's early in the review process of season two, the critic reviews have started strong. Rotten Tomatoes has given The Last of Us season two a 93% rating through the first 46 reviews.

The responses from fans regarding the high early score for the show's new season were primarily positive. One fan pointed out that the high Rotten Tomatoes score aligned somewhat with Metacritic's reviews.
Metacritic's marks for The Last of Us season two feature an 82% critic rating (based on 28 reviews) and a 9.6 user score (eight reviews). The site has dubbed the show as a "Metacritic must-watch."
With the high early grades, some fans weren't surprised to see season two's feedback already feature so much love. For the most part, the ratings on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic have only added to the hype surronding the upcoming season.
