Sterling K. Brown is sharing the heartfelt reason why he stopped going by his middle name.

The Emmy-winning actor said that he went by Kelby in part because he “wanted my own name” and also because “it felt like Sterling was an old man’s name.”
However, his view on his name changed completely after his father’s death.
“But because [my dad] passed away when I was 10, by the time I turned 16 and I hadn’t heard his name for five, five-and-a-half years, I was like, I kinda just wanna hear that name again. So I asked people to call me Sterling,” he shared.
When the camera panned to Kelly, she clearly had tears in her eyes while she said, “That was so sweet and beautiful,” before turning her face away from the camera to compose herself.
Sterling also averted his eyes from the camera, and from an emotional Kelly, to stop himself from crying before telling her, “It’s all good.”
In another recent interview, Sterling revealed the superhero role he turned down.
