Albany man gets 14 years for gun charges
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- An Albany man was sentenced on two separate gun charges on Tuesday. Eric Chapman, 19, pleaded guilty to these charges on February 5 and February 21.
Chapman admitted to carrying a loaded handgun with a high-capacity magazine and fleeing from police prior to being taken into custody last July with his February 5 plea. With his February 21 plea, Chapman admitted to leading a foot pursuit on October 5 to Clinton Avenue and Judson Street and hiding a handgun that police later identified as his through DNA testing.
The defendant was sentenced to six and a half years for the October 5 incident and seven and a half years for the July incident, per the Albany County District Attorney. The sentences will run consecutively for a total of 14 years.
Chapman is also slated to go on trial as the suspect in the murder of Javone Sims Jr., who was shot in the backyard of a Third Street home on June 22, 2023. He pleaded not guilty last year.
