No Kids Allowed After Minecraft Movie Turns to Mayhem at NJ Theater
A movie theater in New Jersey has officially restricted unaccompanied minors from seeing "Minecraft".
In a Facebook post from April 5, Township Theater in New Jersey wrote that at one screening, a group of "unsupervised boys — believed to be from Waldwick — engaged in completely unacceptable behavior, including vandalism. We also received multiple complaints from other moviegoers who were trying to enjoy the film with their families. Video footage of the incident has been obtained."
They noted that going forward, minors will need to be accompanied by an adult to attend the movie. They concluded, "Unaccompanied groups of boys will not be admitted."
Much of the chaos stemmed from one particular scene where a baby zombie rides a chicken. On TikTok, fans may recognize it as the iconic "chicken jockey" moment.

Many individuals, primarily parents, flocked to the theater’s Facebook post to weigh in on the issue.
One user wrote, "The fact that parents are trying to defend and say this behavior is acceptable is exactly the problem and why their kids act this way."
Others, however, didn't agree with the sentiment, writing, "I was there Friday night at the 7:15 showing the large group of kids were hilarious my younger kids had a blast at your theatre! I can't speak for last night sorry that occurred."
Despite the ongoing chaos at movie theaters, one thing is for certain: the movie is a box office hit. "Minecraft" closed its opening weekend with a record-shattering $163 million domestically and $150.7 million overseas.
With the continued buzz online, those numbers are expected to keep climbing.
