'White Lotus' Star Was 'Really Scared About Being Sued by HBO'
HBO and the creators of "The White Lotus" were notoriously protective over the details of season 3 of the hit show, going to extreme lengths to make sure that no spoilers leaked before the show could air. And it sounds like the show was so serious about preventing leaks that one actor was legitimately afraid of being sued.
During an interview with Variety Magazine last month, Sam Nivola, who played Lochlan in season 3 of the "The White Lotus," opened up a bit about just how careful he was not to share any secrets from the show.
In the interview, Nivola admitted that he told his parents but wouldn't even tell his own sister the ending of the show because he did not trust her not to share it with anyone else.
"I told my parents, but I haven’t told my sister," Nivola admitted to Variety. "She’s bad at keeping secrets."
While that might sound extreme, it sounds like that alone was enough to technically violate one of the many non-disclosure agreements he signed with HBO.
During the interview, Nivola admitted that he also shared the details with his girlfriend since she was there while they were filming the ending of the show, but the NDAs state that he isn't even supposed to have told anyone at all.
He admitted that he was actually afraid of being sued by the network if he told someone and details got out.
"I’m not supposed to have told anyone, because I’m under a lot of NDAs. But I told my girlfriend, because she was there while we were shooting it. That’s about it. I’m really scared about getting sued by HBO," Nivola told Variety.
Of course, Nivola can breathe easy now as season 3 of the show officially concluded on Sunday night, bringing Lochlan's story arc to a close.
Nivola joined "The Tonight Show" earlier this week to open up about his character's storyline.
