Neighbors notice disappearing pigeons from Brooklyn park
BUSHWICK, Brooklyn (PIX11) -- A flock of pigeons is a regular sight at Maria Hernandez Park in Bushwick but some neighbors say the number of birds has decreased.
Tina Pina is a local resident and artist who feeds the flock by the park. She says only about a quarter of pigeons remain.
A group of neighbors and animal rescuers are worried that the pigeons are being captured to be sold for sport, which is illegal in New York.
Neighbors have contacted police and are asking for residents to report suspicious activity.
The NYPD has an Animal Cruelty Investigation Squad, a specialized unit that investigates claims of animal abuse and neglect in the city.
