Shrimp boil the Knights, Hoppers bug the Dash, and Ballers blast the Cats as affiliates go 1-2 with Barons rained out
Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 8, Charlotte Knights 5 (Gameday box) (Statcast box)
Nick Nastrini made his third start of the 2025 season, and while it was an improvement over his first two outings, he still conceded three runs (two earned) over five innings. The Jumbo Shrimp jumped on the righthander early, plating two runs in the bottom of the first inning. An unearned run was tacked on in the fifth due to throwing errors from Bobby Dalbec and Kyle Teel, coupled with a wild pitch.
The Knights got on the board in the top of the second when Kyle Teel led off with a triple, and Tim Elko drove him home on a fielder’s choice.

Charlotte tied the game 2-2 in the third after Dominic Fletcher walked, advanced to third on a fielding error, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Edgar Quero.
Jacksonville broke the game wide open in the bottom of the sixth, getting to reliever Trey McGough, who allowed four runs, giving the Shrimp a 7-2 advantage. Jacksonville added another tally in the seventh off James Karinchak, who issued two walks and a double.
The Knights attempted a comeback with a late-inning surge in the top of the eighth. With two on and two out, Andre Lipcius hit a three-run bomb to left, but ultimately, it was too little too late. Charlotte went down in order in the ninth, dropping their season record to 6-6.

Greensboro Grasshoppers 4, Winston-Salem Dash 2 (Gameday box) (Statcast box)

Unfortunately, Greensboro rallied in the late innings. In the top of the eighth, against reliever Jake Peppers, who had pitched a clean seventh, the Grasshoppers scored two runs. Back-to-back singles, a wild pitch by Carson Jacobs (who came in for mop-up duty), and another single put them ahead for good 3-2. They added an insurance run in the top of the ninth when, with two outs, Tommy Vail walked Lonnie White Jr., and Shalin Polanco followed with a triple to right. Even though he gave up the tally, he did strike out the side.
Despite the loss, the highlight of the game was the debut of Murphy the bat dog! Look at how adorable he is!

Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 13, Lynchburg Hillcats 6 (Gameday box) (Statcast box)
The Kannapolis Cannon Ballers defeated the Lynchburg Hillcats in a high-scoring affair! The Ballers’ offense exploded for 14 hits while also working nine walks. The contest featured about every baseball element you can see in a game, including defensive miscues, balks, wild pitches, hit batsmen, and a passed ball.
Luis Merejo got the Hillcats on the board in the bottom of the first with a solo home run off Kanny’s starting pitcher, Gabriel Rodríguez. The righty was making his first appearance since August 2023 after spending all of last season on the injured list.
The Ballers quickly responded in the top of the second when Casey Saucke singled, stole second, and scored on an RBI triple by Lyle Miller-Green. Lynchburg regained the lead in their half of the second, scoring a run via a single, a wild pitch, a groundout, and a balk.
Kannapolis took control in the top of the fifth, batting around against Hillcats reliever Connor Whittaker and scoring five runs on seven singles and two walks, with Ryan Burrowes contributing two hits in the inning. They added another run in the top of the sixth without a hit, capitalizing on a walk to Ronny Hernandez, a hit-by-pitch to Braden Montgomery, a balk, and another wild pitch.

The Cannon Ballers extended their lead in the top of the seventh with three more insurance runs, including a two-run blast by Javier Mogollon.
