Ranking The Men Of ‘Summer House’ By How Gross They Are
Summer House is a Bravo reality show that follows the lives of a group of friends who share a house in the Hamptons each summer. Throughout the show’s nine seasons one constant is that the male cast members are consistently terrible human beings to the women in their lives. While the men think of each other as good guys (and they might be, if we only count interacting with other men), they seem absolutely flabbergasted when asked to treat women with the same respect they show their buddies.
Here is my power ranking of the men currently on Summer House, from most angelic to most demonic:
Imrul Hassan
Imrul hasn’t been around long enough to do anything as depraved as his castmates. While he has a really interesting backstory as an immigrant to the U.S., the producers instead focus on Imrul’s attendance at various NYC orgies. We don’t see him talking to any of the girls he’s hooked up with so we can’t say whether everyone is in agreement about the nature of what goes down (which is primarily what the other men fail at). It is entirely possible Imrul only ranks so highly because we’ve seen so little of him and how he treats women.
Carl Radke
Carl’s shockingly high ranking surprises no one more than me. That’s how bad the options are. We can call Carl’s failed engagement with Lindsay a wash, since there’s crazy on both sides of that relationship. But beyond Lindsay, Carl has a piss poor track record with women all the way back to Lauren Wirkus in season one. In season three, he pursued Paige and gaslit everyone about her being “so hard to figure out” even though Paige explicitly told him what to do if he wanted to date her (ask her on a date, talk to her during the week). He’ll try anything but listening to the woman he supposedly wants to be in a relationship with.
Kyle Cooke
Kyle treats Amanda like crap. He may have improved over the years, or he might just be getting a better edit because unlike Amanda, the fans won’t stand for nine seasons of Kyle disrespecting her. The man was positively stumped when Paige said he wasn’t allowed to rage text her. It was as if it was his first time considering that not everyone is going to stay friends with him no matter how they are treated.
Jesse Solomon
I’m not saying this is the way things should be, but Jesse can get nearly anywhere in life with his smile and infectious charm. I’d say he’s the funniest guy in Summer House history, but that would be Stephen erasure. As much as I was rooting for him, Jesse’s treatment of Lexi this season is beyond gross. To her face, he pretends he’s on the same page as her and then to everyone else he rolls his eyes and throws Lexi under the bus. If Jesse thinks what Lexi wants is so ridiculous, he should not agree to it and let her continue to seek someone who is a better fit for her. Instead, he wastes her time by lying to her and pretending he is interested in a wholesome, monogamous relationship.
West Wilson
Last season West did Ciara dirty. She told him not to pursue her unless he was serious and he was not, at all, serious and pursued her anyway. I could easily forgive this if he learned from the experience or admitted that he was wrong, but he won’t. The real unforgivable part is that this season he won’t stop crying about how he is perceived as a bad guy because of this. Ciara isn’t talking about West unless someone directly asks her about him, but West will not stop talking about how mean it is that Ciara/the fans don’t approve of him. The good news for West is that we are all very tired of the West/Ciara storyline and we collectively pray to the Bravo gods for all involved to move on to what’s next.
