Jack Nicholson Makes Amends to Ex Anjelica Huston Decades After 'Heartbreaking' Split
Jack Nicholson and Angelica Huston were one of Hollywood's power couples during their 17-year romance. It was an on-again, off-again situation from 1973 to 1990, and it ended after the Oscar-winning actor fathered a child outside of their relationship.
Nicholson and actress Rebecca Broussard were together from 1989 until 1994 and had two children, daughter Lorraine, 34, and son Ray, 34, who is a dead ringer for his dad. Huston married sculptor Robert Graham in 1992 and was with him until he died in 2008.
After the affair, the damage was done in Nicholson and Huston's relationship. Still, the former dynamic duo has always held a place in their hearts for each other. That's why Huston is speaking out about her ex-boyfriend's sweet gesture amid tragedy earlier this year. While the devastating Los Angeles wildfires raged on in January, the 73-year-old actress was evacuating "in a car with three dogs, two cats and the housekeeper."
She explained to The Guardian that the 87-year-old Oscar winner reached out to ask if she was safe. "...He called and asked if I was all right and if I had someplace I was staying," she shared. "That’s the bottom line with he and I — when the chips are down, he’s there."
The tremendous love between them was solid, over thirty years after they broke up. Nicholson's chronic cheating was the final nail in the coffin of their relationship, but it didn't change the foundation of their friendship.
"I think in the world that I was living in, it wasn’t disrespectful. It was how he was, and it wasn’t so personal. I think as soon as I clocked that, it was all right, I knew how to protect myself," Huston said of Nicholson's infidelities. "It didn’t make me happy, but I knew what I was doing."
The Shining star came through when it mattered the most and Huston told People recently that "it's always a comfort when he calls." The tender moment between them was "heartbreakingly sweet" because it was Nicholson's way of making amends in his own way.
Huston added, "I’ve gone back over it several times in my head, and I think next time I’d accept the invitation."
