Some Golf Fans Want Masters Hopeful Banned From Augusta
On day one of the Masters tournament, amateur Jose Luis Ballester peed in a creek near the tee of the 13th hole.
"I really need to pee," Ballester, 21, recalled thinking in a post-round interview with reporters. He said he forgot there were bathrooms nearby. "Didn't really know where to go, and since [Justin Thomas] had an issue on the green, I'm like, I'm just going to sneak here in the river and probably people would not see me that much ... and they clapped for me," he added.
When Ballester was asked if he was worried about repercussions, he responded, "It was not embarrassing at all for me. If I had to do it again I’d do it again."
Golf fans have been discussing Ballester's decision to pee in public and while many feel as though it wasn't a big deal, quite a few others think he should be banned from the championship — for life.
"I would not let him play the second round," one person commented on X.
"Eject. For life," someone else said.
"Needs to be DQ’d," a third social media user wrote, adding, "Ballester disrespectful to Augusta National."
"Lifetime ban," a fourth comment read.
For those hoping that Ballester — who hails from Spain — would be removed from the second round playing field, he is set to tee off in a matter of minutes. He's currently four-over par, shooting a 76 after Round 1.
