Hiking shoes are lighter, more breathable, and less restrictive than hiking boots, making them great for longer treks through any terrain, particularly in warm weather. Even if you’re partial to boots, it’s worth having a pair of lower-cut hiking shoes on hand, and REI is giving you the chance to get a great pair from Keen for $70 less than normal during its Co-op members' sale.
Keen Zionic Waterproof Hiking Shoes are on sale for just $90, a 44% discount from their typical $160 asking price. That price reflects the combination of the 25% discount available to everyone and the additional 25% off that REI members receive when they use the code OUTAPRIL25 at checkout. (If you’re at all interested in the outdoors, the $30 lifetime REI membership is worth it. Use it on these shoes, and it’ll pay for itself already.) These discounts are good on all five colorways of these shoes, but the Dark Forest/Black option has, by far, the best remaining size availability.
Keen Zionic Waterproof Hiking Shoes Title in Dark Forest/Black, $90 (was $160) at REI
This shoe is waterproof thanks to a PFAS-free durable water-repellent layer and Keen’s proprietary waterproof membrane. That membrane is also breathable, and along with the quick-dry linings and anti-odor treatment, makes wearing these shoese a pleasantly dry experience. More general comfort and support features include removable polyurethane insoles, a contoured fit, Achilles pads, stability shanks, and outsoles made of TPU, a high-traction but lightweight material. It all adds up to a great shoe that, for what it’s worth, is also available in a hiking boot version if you want the extra coverage.
One shopper who’s worn these shoes for backpacking, daily wear, and day hiking said they had "the best fit and comfort choices I’ve experienced in a hiking shoe.” They added that they are “better made and with more lateral support than even high-end running shoes,” features that also make it a “great city trekker.”
“Keen is great for extra wide feet!” wrote another shopper, complimentarily. They’ve also worn them for backpacking, day hiking, and daily wear, and have been “very happy with purchase” of a size on the larger end in order to fit some wider-than-average feet.
Keen Zionic Waterproof Hiking Shoes are a great choice for those experienced and inexperienced in wearing hiking shoes, given the comfortable, lightweight design. Most size and color combinations are already out of stock, so if you’d like to get a pair of your own, we’d recommend buying one ASAP, particularly given that the steep discount on offer wraps up on April 14.
