DEC to host fish stocking event at Six Mile Waterworks in Albany
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) will host a fish stocking event at the Six Mile Waterworks in Albany on April 17. From 10 a.m. to noon, families can help DEC Acting Commissioner Amanda Lefton and Mayor Kathy Sheehan restock Rensselaer Lake with trout.
2,100 catchable-size rainbow trout will be released into the lake, and although it's not a fishing event, anyone with a proper fishing license is welcome to bring their fishing rods. There will also be family-friendly activities and a chance to learn more about how to fly cast from the Capital District Fly Fishers.
The DEC began stocking over 1.8 million brook, brown, and rainbow trout in March. Stocking efforts for ponds, lakes, and streams will continue through June. Lefton said she encourages all New York anglers to explore the state's fishing opportunities.
"DEC trout stocking is in full swing statewide, including here at Rensselaer Lake ensuring Albany and other Capital Region residents have spot nearby to get outside, cast a line, and enjoy nature," Lefton said.
