You don’t have to break the bank on fancy products because there’s a pantry staple you can use to transform your outdoor space.

Former royal gardener Jack Stooks has revealed all you need is some coffee to get your garden looking posh in no time.

Jack, who previously worked at Highgrove Estate the gardening whizz shared with Coffee Friend what gardeners can use the humble coffee bean for.

First of all, coffee grounds can be used as a fertiliser, the pro revealed.

“Like most fertilisers, it consists of the elements NPK: nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium,” he said.

It’s perfect for boarders and will help flowers grow in no time – and it can also help bring worms into your garden, which help with aeration.

But the uses don’t end there, coffee can also be used as a “thick mulch to place over the soil and around plants.”

The coffee can help suppress weeds while also locking in moisture, the pro explained.

And if you’re sick of pests bothering you when you try and relax in your garden, placing coffee grounds close to seating areas outside can help deter mosquitos and other bugs.

The kitchen staple can even be used to help flowers bloom at their best.

That said, you need to be ready in autumn and feed your plants coffee grounds then to see the best results.

For this to happen, however, “you would want to feed them these coffee grounds in the autumn months”.

“The coffee will be used as feed within the pots,” Jack said.
