Bryson DeChambeau Sends 5-Word Message Before Rory McIlroy Rematch
Sunday, April 13 will feature Rory McIlroy going head-to-head with Bryson DeChambeau for the second time in a major title in the past year.
At the 2024 U.S. Open, McIlroy held a one-shot lead heading into the No. 16 but missed two short putts to watch his lead - and the major title - slip through his grasp. This time around he enters the final round of the Masters with a two-shot lead over DeChambeau, who birdied three of his final four holes to set up another battle.
After a birdie on No. 16 on Saturday, DeChambeau stared down the patrons across the water. When asked about the decision, he initially suggested he was just having a bit of fun with the patrons before making it clear he was sending a message.
"Just getting the patrons going. Having a bit of fun with them," DeChambeau said. "Makes me focus more. I don't know. It's a fun thing that whenever I feel like I feed into the crowd, especially the patrons here, it just … they give that energy back. And it's a cool feeling, so I used that a couple times today."
"Rory was kind of moving forward. He was at 12 under, and I was kind of chasing a bit," DeChambeau said. "When I made that, I looked up and I said, kind of as a statement, like, you know what, I'm still here. I'm going to keep going. I'm not going to back down."
He wasn't done sending messages, though. Before the final round on Sunday, April 13, he took to social media with a clear message.
"Tomorrow is going to be fun," DeChambeau said.
